Facility Operator

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta (Shift-Based Role)

Pure Environmental is an Alberta-based waste management company serving the energy and industrial sectors.

We design, build, and operate geothermal waste cavern facilities, engineered Class II industrial landfills, and waste processing facilities to manage by-products generated across the full lifecycle of energy and industrial operations, including exploration, production, processing, storage, and transportation.

Pure operates world-class facilities in strategically located, underserved markets across Canada. With decades of experience in the environmental and energy services industries, our team is focused on safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence to deliver reliable, practical waste management solutions for industry.


Position Summary

As a Facility Operator, you will report to the General Manager and be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

This role is accountable for ensuring all materials accepted at the facility comply with permits, maintaining a safe and professional work environment, supporting customer logistics, and developing customer-specific solutions.

You will also perform routine maintenance, coordinate third-party contractors, and manage daily administrative tasks including ticket filing and data entry. Accurate tracking and logging of all incoming and outgoing waste is essential, in accordance with facility SOPs.

The Facility Operator is also responsible for maintaining and updating Standard Operating Procedures as required.

Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off, 12-hour shifts including nights.


Responsibilities

  • Follow and help develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Understand regulatory approvals, well classifications, and accepted materials
  • Support field sales and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Operate and maintain the facility in accordance with SOPs and maintenance schedules
  • Coordinate and schedule third-party contractors as required
  • Issue Safe Work Permits for contractors
  • Identify hazards and report incidents
  • Track and log all incoming and outgoing fluids in compliance with facility approvals
  • Follow Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Health & Safety Manual
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of licenses, approvals, and training records
  • Uphold Pure Environmental’s values through daily actions

Qualifications

  • Strong client service focus
  • Grade 12 or equivalent required
  • Mechanical background required
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email)
  • Heavy equipment experience (Dozers and Loaders preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Positive, solution-oriented mindset
